ARTT 150 : Art Theory II

Task:

Montgomery College has a reading and writing requirement for all classes. For this class you will write an imaginary interview with an internationally known contemporary ceramic artist.  An interview is completely different from an essay. Interview – definition:  A formal meeting at which a reporter try to get information, especially from a famous person or public official.

Grade:

Graded papers (10% of final grade) will be returned at the final exam. The grade for a late paper will be lowered a full letter grade and must be submitted within 3 workdays (next class) from the due date. Papers submitted late beyond 3 workdays from the due date will not be accepted, resulting in an “F” grade.

Choose whom you’ll interview from the list of artists (back of this page) and learn about artist’s work, philosophy and other significant facts about his/her life. You should read or watch at least 3 interviews with him/her to have a credible foundation for your questions.

You ask intelligent, art related questions in first person as an interviewer and you answer questions in first person as an artist. Questions and answers need to be believable and not plagiarized; don’t copy and paste.

You are asking and answering questions that are based on what you learned about the artist.  You need to research the artist and compose your questions and answers based on your knowledge – basically interpreting information that you have learned.  Example:  “I would like to ask you about your sculpture that is on display in MOMA.”  Don’t ask corny questions such as “What’s your favorite food?”  “How did you start?”, etc.

Paper has to be typewritten in Microsoft Word  (NOT in Google doc or pdf or any other formats). If emailed in other format than Microsoft Word a half grade would be automatically deducted from your research paper grade and your paper will be emailed back.

Use size 12 font; printed only on one side of each page; double spaced. All written pages and pages with printed photos have to be fastened together and, in a cover, or folder.

The top of the first page needs to contain: your name, class, semester and the name of the artist.

Include 3 color images of works by the interviewed sculptor. Minimum size of each photo has to be 4×5 inches.  The images need to be printed on separate pages. The maximum size of each photo should not exceed 450 – 500 KB. Include description under each image containing title, media and year.
